Sweet Fisticuffs Over At NYC’s Next Level Battle Circuit 124!

When Chinatown Fair shut its doors, New York City was left without an arcade in the early ’90s mold: a videogame dungeon where practiced hands could battle via fighting games like Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat.

Thankfully, a new venue has opened up to fill the void: Next Level Arcade. The Sunset Park space is equipped with nine cabinets that focus on head-to-head titles like Street Fighter IV and Marvel vs. Capcom 3. Consoles like Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 are set up to play contemporary titles, which can be selected from Next Level’s extensive library.

Battle Circuit, a tournament series for hardcore players, is held Wednesday nights at 6 PM.

With the next big North American Capcom Pro Tour event on the horizon (Community Effort Orlando 2015), the big guns of the East Coast FGC are starting to show up in force at NLBC, sharpening their senses and testing new tech.

I was pleasantly surprised – some really entertaining matches here, both visually and technically. Not at all what you’d expect from a weekly tournament.
